During the Nabatean Kingdom Petra became widely admired for its refined architecture shown in its temples, Roman theatres, monasteries, houses and roads and its ingenious complex of dams and water channels. From the entrance a track leads you to the Siq a natural narrow gorge as the cliffs seems to close above you, suddenly the passage widens offering the astonishing glimpse of Al Khazneh (The Treasury).
